When buying your sippy cup, there are some tips that you can follow to avoid products containing Bisphenol A. Try to buy products that look cloudy, as these tend to be made from materials that don't contain BPA. Avoid any products that are made from polycarbonates, and those that have the numbers 3, 6, or 9 in the middle of the recycling symbol often found on a product's base.

Certain brands tend to be safer than others, so see if you can be guided towards buying a product that does not contain BPA. In addition, if in doubt about a product, never heat the liquids you plan to heat for your infant in a plastic container.

Heating can cause the leeching of BPA. Instead, heating your liquids in a safe container such as a ceramic mug, and then transfer the warmed contents to the sippy cup afterward. Alternatively, you can try to avoid sippy cups altogether, and try to move your child towards drinking from products that are not made from plastic materials. This may be trying at first, but it may be a better approach to take in order to ensure your child's health.
